Ekaterina Grokhovskaia: The Devil’s Flower – Цветок дьявола (2010) – trailer

Director, Scriptwriter: Ekaterina Grokhovskaia
Cast: Marina Golub, Andrei Kharitonov, Ol’ga Khokhlova, Sergei Krapiva, Irina Kupchenko, Elena Levkovich, Natal’ia Naumova, Roman Pakhomov, Natal’ia Rudova , Oleg Sukachenko

In the months before its release, fans anticipated that Katia Grokhovskaia’s Devil’s Flower would be the Russian answer to the Twilight saga. Looking at the two films’ promotional materials, which are almost identical, it is clear that Russian publicists hoped to capitalize on the enormous success of the American blockbuster. In reality, production for Devil’s Flower began well before the teen vampire epic, but because of various set-backs was not completed until 2010. However, comparisons are not entirely unwarranted; there are certainly similarities between the two enterprises. Like Twilight, Grokhovskaia’s film centers around a young woman swept into a supernatural world and forced to choose between an ordinary boy and an otherworldly lover. However, aside from some additional aesthetic similarities and a certain amount of wooden acting, the likeness ends there. Despite its beautiful young cast, moody cinematography and alternative rock soundtrack, Devil’s Flower did not attain box office success and was widely panned by critics and audiences alike.

The film tells the story of Polina, a college student with a 1970s sense of style and ethereal good looks. Polina is suffering from nightmares in which she stands before the gates of a dark castle confronting a huge glowing red flower. Wearing a white medieval gown and a look of faint consternation, Polina is drawn into the heart of the blossom by feathery tendrils.

Disturbed by this dream, she contacts her friend, Nastia. Fortuitously, Nastia has a strong interest in the occult and lives in an appropriately sinister and isolated cabin. Upon hearing about the strange dream, Nastia goes into a trance and discovers that there is a useful book located in a secret archive of the city library. This archive, full of unlabeled and seemingly un-catalogued books, might be the scariest part of the whole movie. Luckily Nastia was guided by otherworldly forces to a book with the image of the devil’s flower on its spine.

Meanwhile, in another part of town, some of Polina’s more mainstream friends are partying with the local polo team. Unsettled by her trip to the library, and haunted by the uneasy feeling that she is being watched, Polina decides to attend the party. There she meets chisel-jawed star of the polo team, Sasha. The excruciating nature of their interactions must be seen to be believed. Theirs is a relationship made up of few words, and each one is delivered with an astonishing paucity of feeling. Whatever the case, Polina and Sasha soon find themselves galloping on horses through lush fields and exchanging long glances in slow-motion.

Back in her sylvan retreat, Nastia has made progress with the mysterious book. She has translated a message from Latin, revealing that to him who tastes the flower, “the Forbidden Gates will be unlocked and he shall be embraced by the Abyss of Eternity.” With that cleared up, she further discovers that six pages of the book are blank. However, when she accidentally bleeds on one of the pages, an image appears. …

How Electronica Music Came To Existing

Electronic Music has gained popularity since the late 1970s. At that time, electronic sounds began to dominate production of popular songs. Throughout the 1980s, electronically related sounds were important in recording of mainstream rock and pop songs. By the early 1990s, many musicians and producers had risen to fame as a result of applying more electronically synthesized sounds that were heavily appreciated by fans.

Instrumentation

Better instruments for recording songs made it possible for potential musicians and group bands to produce electronic songs and albums without having to use facilities of established studios. Emerging computer technologies enabled individuals to access sampled beats and songs which provided basics in developing popular compositions. Such compositions that allowed experimentation and led to development of new genres were termed as electronica.

Everyone Does It

Nowadays, a wide range of musical styles and acts are fond of openly using electronic production. There is a growing practice of song composers creating alternative versions of their compositions which are called remixes.hip hop and R&B rhythms have been twisted in different styles to come up with better versions that are catchy to fans. Electronic related sounds have been used by a range of composers and performers in their songs leading to hip hop fusion.

Remixing

From early 1990s to date, electronic sounds have been undergoing modification. This has been possible due to recent computer and sound synthesizer technologies. Audio workstations, drum machines, sequencers and other electronic musical instruments have continually contributed in the changing styles used in recording compositions. This has made it possible for potential song producers and individuals to generate sounds and beats of their interest.

Any Type Of Use

Unlike electronic dance compositions which are essentially created for dancing purposes, electronica compositions have been designed for a wide variety of uses. They can be played in the background when certain activities are taking place or for foreground listening. Electronic related genres have become very common to headphone users, earphone users and in chill out zones mainly visited by teenagers.

Evolving Sounds

Electronic dance music is specifically meant for dancing purposes and is mainly played in raves. Rave is a culture of hanging out at night and has spread worldwide becoming a field of interest to most researchers. Raves have been criticized since persons in attendance mainly teenagers abuse hard drugs and involve in careless sexual practices. A new genre called Dubstep Music is proof of evolving sounds.

Electronic Dance Music (EDM)

Genres common in record stores such as jazz, techno, rap, hip hop among others mainly rely on production styles and techniques that originated from use of electronic musical instruments and associated technologies. Compositions of recognized electric artists have been used by famous mainstream musicians as background sounds in their songs. Such songs have taken hip hop musicians to great heights enabling them to make huge cash from highly attended concerts.

Electronica has widely been applied in television advertisements as background sound effects. Popular electronically produced tracks have been incorporated in video game sounds. This has led to growing interest in this kind of genre. Products resulting due to advancements in technology hardly lack incorporation of electronic sounds. This is common in street advertisements that use neon signs and attractive billboards. I like Dubstep a lot. people use Ableton Live to create electronic music.

Konstantin Lopushansky Launches Production of his New Film

Konstantin Lopushansky starts shooting in Petersburg a new film under the title “The Role”.

According to the film director, it will be a black-and-white historical picture about the post-revolutionary period.

The protagonist is an actor played by Maksim Sukhanov. He gets acquainted with a soldier – his double, and when the latter perishes, decides instead of his own life to play to the end the life of the White Guard soldier, who planned to go to Petrograd (Petersburg) already seized by the Red Army.

Konstantin Lopushansky got the idea of this film story as far back as 25 years ago, but initially Soviet ideology in the country prevented him from making the film, and later there was just no money for it. Now finally the filming has been started. The film budget is 2.5 million dollars. The Role may be released by the end of this year already.

Officials ban construction at Red October – for now

Moscow authorities have denied rumors that the Red October area, which is so popular with the city’s artists and art lovers, is to be turned into an elite residential area.

The authorities have said they appreciate the area’s cultural significance as it currently hosts dozens of galleries, TV channels and cultural centers. The only thing they need to tackle is the nightclub “Paradize”, which is located in the area, resulting in long traffic jams around it.

“A technical document was adopted last October,” Aleksandr Kibovsky, director of Moscow’s Cultural Heritage Department, told RT. “It defines constraints on construction projects. None of the projects proposed so far comply with these restrictions. The earliest anyone can start building anything is summer 2013.”

Panic spread after one of Moscow’s newspapers heard that a new agreement on the area’s security has been signed, allowing developers to build a new residential complex at the site of the former chocolate factory.

There was widespread discontent among Muscovites at the rumors of a redevelopment project. Bloggers set up a Facebook page in protest against the project and started collecting signatures of those sharing their outrage – some even called for a rally.

In the 1970s, the area was the site of the famous Red October chocolate factory. When the factory moved out, developers tried to build an elite development there, but were stopped by the 2008 crisis. The offices in the area are rented by numerous TV stations, newspapers and art galleries.

Add Superior Handling And Attractiveness With XD Series Wheels

The XD Series rims and other aluminum alloy rims are the way to go if you are looking to spruce up the look of your truck or car. Even though rims last forever, sometimes the manufacturer’s boring ones leave something to be desired and ruin the beauty of a new vehicle. But alloy rims are not all about looks. There are other benefits such as better handling that make them a popular choice.

You cannot have a true custom lifted truck or SUV if you do not have some custom chrome wheels installed. They enhance the beauty and style of your ride with their clean, uncluttered look. Plus-sizing, which involves upsizing your rim size and using low-profile tires, also enhances your ride’s appearance. The rim design stands out, drawing more attention and in most cases jealous stares.

Another advantage to plus-sizing is how it improves the handling of a vehicle. The rims help low-profile tires keep their shape and prevent bulging sides when taking turns. That means that you have better steering control when taking tight turns, which is important for high performance tires or aggressive driving.

One of the biggest benefits of alloy over steel is weight, they are much lighter which makes for better comfort and performance. Because they are lighter, the weight on the suspension is reduced, creating a better road grip and better steering control. Another benefit is that without the added weight, you can get better gas mileage, saving yourself money over time.

Alloy rims will also help to reduce the risk of fading and brake failure while increasing the lifespan of your brakes. Because of the way they are designed, there is more airflow over the brakes to reduce the risk of overheating by cooling them down. That in turn provides a safer driving experience and quicker brake-response time by improving the performance of the brakes.

Unlike steel, they are more resistant to bending and their strength helps to keep down the amount of cracking of the metal. Their unique designs are created by using low-pressure casting technique so they are more adaptable and flexible. And, for an added bonus, since they are rust-resistant and easy to keep clean, they always look great.

You’ll have no problem finding the right rim in the large selection offered today. Because of how great they look on vehicles, their popularity has grown immensely which has called for a demand of more choices. The one thing to always keep in mind is the bolt pattern. Unusual patterns will have a limited choice in rims.

It is not easy deciding which XD Series chrome rims to choose today because not all rims are created alike. That is why you need to think about performance and handling in addition to how the wheel & tire packages over steel is a popular choice. Even manufacturers are fitting cars with them before they leave the factory. The XD series wheels do not only complement your ride’s appearance, they provide better driving of any vehicle they are fitted on.

Thai Year of Dragon celebration ends in fiery tragedy

A Chinese New Year celebration in Thailand turned into a tragedy as festive fireworks sparked a blaze. Four people died and almost 90 were injured, while more than 100 homes burnt down.

Authorities believe that flames from a faulty firework set off a pile of unused rockets at the display in the town of Suphan Buri, about 100 kilometers northwest of Bangkok.

Deputy Prime Minister Chumpol Silpa-archa and his brother, former Prime Minister Banharn Silpa-archa attended the New Year celebration.

The four people killed by the explosion and blaze were three organizers and a female spectator, who died of her injuries early Wednesday, according to a local government official.

Authorities set up tents on Tuesday night to house people evacuated from the area.

Thailand has a large ethnic Chinese population, and the advent of the Year of the Dragon has been widely celebrated across the country.

Mystery of Russian Spy in Canada

Jeffrey Delisle – A Russian Spy in Canada?

After Canadian Navy officer Jeffrey Delisle (pictured, left) was arrested, accused of spying for Russia, the Canadian Government moved quickly to expel four Russian diplomats.

Or did they?

The Russian Government has hotly denied that its diplomats were linked to Delisle, and claimed that they left Canada as part of a long-planned rotation of embassy staff.

As evidence they pointed out that Konstantin Kopalkov must have known of his departure well in advance – otherwise, how else would he have been able to hold his leaving party in Ottawa on December 8th last year.

Kopalkov also sent an email round to colleagues to tell them of his departure and to wish them well for their future. “Please be advised that I am leaving the country for good in the end of December, 2011,” he wrote, adding that he “would like to highlight that it was a real pleasure to work in Canada. I wish you all the best, well-being and prosperity!”

Criticism

Delisle’s arrest and the subsequent expulsion of Russian diplomats has been headline news in Canada, prompting some great coverage of previous Russian spies in Canada – notably Gerda Munsinger, pictured below, who allegedly bedded a number of senior Conservative politicians in the 1950s.

Gerda Munsinger, an East German prostitute, was accused of sleeping with Canadian politicians while Russian spies evesdropped

However, in Russia, a country normally fascinated by its own spies, the story has hardly received any coverage at all.

Russia has dismissed the way that the affair has been handled, calling the news “sensational” and “unsubstantiated”, and the Canadian Government has also come in for criticism from its own media for its needless “Russophobia”.

Steven Harper, the Conservative Canadian Prime Minister, has come in for particular criticism for his Cold War mentality – according to Christopher Westdal, Canada’s former Ambassador to Russia, he “came with… baggage of deep suspicion of Russia” – and for placing more emphasis on impressing Canada’s large Eastern European immigrant population than on securing Canada’s wider national interests.

Interestingly, there has been little public criticism yet of Canada’s internal security arrangements, and of how Delisle managed to evade detection for so long.

Jeffrey Delisle, “Loner and Geek”

As is traditional in cases like this, the Canadian media has already begun to trot out the ‘Delisle was a loner’ stories. Ian Wilson, one of his former classmates, provided the obliging quote this time:

“He was probably one of the biggest geeks in the school. He definitely wasn’t an outgoing party animal type guy. He was one of those guys who was always under the radar.”

Delisle, who worked as an intelligence officer in the Canadian Navy and had access to secret data from other NATO countries, will go on trial shortly, accused of selling classified information to Russia between 2007 and 2001.

He was reportedly identified by Canadian intelligence some time ago, and for the past few years has been un-knowingly used to provide Russia with false information – turning him into what is described as a ‘sour-milk spy’. Some analysts have cast doubt on this story, however, noting that it may be an attempt to persuade Russia that the information it bought from Delisle was unreliable.
